The new feature lets users select a ghost-shaped icon while creating a post to make it temporary. These posts appear in followers’ feeds as grey dotted chat bubbles, signaling that they will vanish after a day.
Once expired, the post is removed from public view but remains accessible to the user in their private archive.
Unlike regular posts, Ghost Posts do not display likes, public replies, or support for photos and videos. Replies are directed privately to the user’s inbox instead.
Additionally, the new feature on Threads Ghost Posts feature is not available through Threads’ Fedi verse integration, keeping the content exclusive to the platform.
Meta says this change is part of its broader effort to help users share “unfiltered thoughts and fresh takes without the pressure of permanence or polish.”
The company believes that disappearing content will encourage authenticity and spontaneity, a welcome shift from the overly curated nature of modern social media.

Since its launch in 2023, Threads has gained over 400 million active users, competing directly with X (formerly Twitter). The introduction of Ghost Posts adds to Threads’ growing list of upgrades, including group chats, 10,000-character posts, and community-based features, further establishing it as a dynamic and user-friendly platform.
