This feature allowing users to interact with artificial intelligence in their native language for the very first time. The initiative is introduced by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) in collaboration with Meta, aims to make AI more inclusive and accessible for millions of Urdu speakers nationwide.
The announcement was made at the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event, which gathered top government officials, technology experts, and academics to discuss Pakistan’s digital transformation.
The launch of ALIF marks a key milestone in bringing artificial intelligence closer to the public, making it easier for users to seek information, express themselves, and stay connected in Urdu.
Speaking at the event, Federal Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said, “Pakistan is accelerating toward a future where technology empowers every citizen.
During the event, Meta also introduced the localized version of “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama,” a guide developed with Deloitte.
Supported by the IT Ministry, the guide showcases how Meta’s open-source AI model, Llama, can enhance government operations, improve public services, and strengthen data sovereignty.

Earlier this year, MoITT joined forces with Meta, the Higher Education Commission (HEC), the National Computing and Emerging Sciences Accreditation Council (NCEAC), and Atomcamp to launch an AI Literacy Program. This program will train 350 non-computer science faculty members from universities across Pakistan, enabling them to teach future generations the core skills needed in the age of AI.
