In a workshop under the project titled “Digital Trust and Free Expression in the AI Era” at the Department of Media and Development Communication, University of the Punjab, supported by the U.S. Mission to Pakistan in partnership with the Pakistan U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN), I started looking at artificial intelligence from a different perspective which I haven't thought about before. If AI can create information in seconds, how do we know which one is correct? I have been using AI for almost 10 years and not even a single time it has responded with “I don't know the answer” I remember scrolling down the content daily, reading AI generated answers and building opinions without any hesitation. This made me think that how easy it was to rely on convenience than accuracy.AI may give an answer that sounds confident and convincing but may assume and incorrect. Today we are surrounded by seas of information. We type a question; we get the answer instantly. We get answers in the media form too, but the real challenge is no longer just finding information.

One topic that grabbed my attention was “AI hallucinations”. I found it interesting and fascinating that AI can generate entirely false information and present it with confidence and full authority. It is concerning. The confidence in an answer doesn't ensure its accuracy. This made me think that how easily we accept information without sufficient scrutiny. The workshop made me reflect on my own digital habits. Do I always verify information before believing it? Do I check the original source? Do I question whether an image or video could have been manipulated? Honestly, not always. In today's digital landscape, misleading and false content spreads at an incredible speed. The line between the real content and the AI generated content has become blur because AI is now capable of making very realistic images, audios, and videos. At times, the content seems so real that nobody thinks about questioning it. Once it starts spreading, repetition overshadows authenticity. There is where information integrity becomes critical. Every person has the right for free expression, but expression comes with responsibility. There comes information integrity tending to slow down in a very fast world. It means checking what we see, questioning the sources, understanding the contexts, and not sharing the things just because they are emotionally appealing. It means to be aware of our biases and beliefs that how easily we believe the things that match our thinking.

Technology is moving way faster than our critical thinking.AI gives answers instantly but it is still on us whether to believe it or not. I don't think the solution is to avoid or fear these technologies. Instead, it is about becoming more aware, more curious and more intentional that how to use and consume online information. We should build habits like double checking, pause before sharing, and not rushing to accept just because something feels right. In the AI era, being informed is not enough. We need to be information-literate.
