Punjab activates AI child protection system
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has activated an AI-based child protection system on Safe City cameras on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
The system is designed to help authorities identify possible cases of child labor and children who may be out of school during designated school hours. The initiative expands the use of artificial intelligence in Punjab's public safety network. PSCA already uses AI-powered surveillance and analytics as part of its wider Safe Cities infrastructure.
Safe City cameras monitor children
According to the Safe City spokesperson, artificial intelligence will continuously analyze activities involving children and flag cases that may require official attention.
The system will look for children who are not wearing school uniforms during school hours. It will also identify students wearing uniforms who are found outside their schools during those hours.
AI alerts for child labor cases
Once the technology detects a potentially relevant case, an automatic alert will be generated and forwarded to the concerned authorities.
This is intended to help government departments respond more quickly and investigate possible cases of child labor or school absenteeism.
Out-of-school children monitoring hours
The AI monitoring system specifically designed to identify out-of-school children will operate from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
Authorities will use the information generated by the system to support timely intervention and improve efforts aimed at keeping children in education.
Punjab expands AI public safety
The latest initiative comes as Punjab continues expanding the use of artificial intelligence across its Safe Cities network. The authority has previously highlighted AI-based surveillance, intelligent monitoring and child-safety initiatives as part of its technology-driven public safety strategy.
The new system is expected to provide authorities with another technology-based tool to identify vulnerable children and strengthen child protection efforts across Punjab.
