Born on December 4, 1996, in Porto, Portugal, Jota rose from humble beginnings to become one of Europe’s top forwards.
Jota began his professional journey with Paços de Ferreira in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, where his potential quickly drew attention. In 2016, he signed with Atlético Madrid, but it was during a loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) that he truly flourished. After helping Wolves win promotion to the Premier League in the 2017–18 season, he made the move permanent.

His performances earned him a transfer to Liverpool FC in September 2020, where he became a key part of Jürgen Klopp’s attacking lineup. At Liverpool, Jota scored 65 goals in 182 appearances and was instrumental in the club’s success, winning:
FA Cup (2021–22)
Carabao Cup / EFL Cup (2021–22)
Community Shield (2022)
UEFA Super Cup (2019, as a Wolves player in squad)
UEFA Champions League Runner-Up (2021–22)
He was praised for his ability to perform in big matches, regularly scoring against top teams in the Premier League and Europe.
Representing Portugal, Jota earned 49 caps and scored 14 goals. He played in major tournaments including UEFA Euro 2020 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and contributed to Portugal s success in the UEFA Nations League.
Jota was not only a footballer but also a devoted family man. He recently married his long-time partner Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children. Their wedding, held in early 2025, was celebrated by fans and fellow footballers alike.
Tragically, on July 3, 2025, Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, also a footballer, died in a car crash in Zamora, Spain. Their vehicle reportedly suffered a tire burst before losing control and catching fire.
Jota’s sudden death at just 28 years old stunned the football world. Clubs, players, and fans paid emotional tributes to a player whose career was filled with promise, passion, and professionalism. He leaves behind a legacy of excellence on the pitch—and warmth, humility, and love off it.
