ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced Rs1,5 million for each player of Pakistan’s men’s national hockey team in recognition of their outstanding performance in the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 Qualifiers.

The Prime Minister said the team’s qualification for the World Cup was a testament to their hard work, dedication, and commitment to promoting and reviving hockey in Pakistan. Their success has sparked immense excitement among fans nationwide.

Shehbaz Sharif described the cash prize as a tribute to the determination of the players. He urged them to continue working hard and assured them that the government would provide all necessary facilities to support their preparation and performance in the upcoming tournament.

The national team qualified for the Hockey World Cup after an eight-year gap. Pakistan secured its spot with a thrilling 4–3 victory over Japan in the semifinals of the qualifiers held in Ismailia, Egypt.

The match was intense, with Pakistan initially taking the lead in the first quarter. Japan equalized in the second quarter and then scored twice more in the third, taking a 3–1 lead and putting Pakistan under immense pressure.

In a dramatic final quarter, the Green Shirts showed remarkable resilience, scoring three goals to complete a stunning comeback and seal a 4–3 win, confirming their qualification for the 2026 Hockey World Cup.
