ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Pakistan's hockey team secured a spot in the semi-finals of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup Qualifiers by defeating Malaysia 5-3 in their second group match in Ismailia, Egypt, on Monday.

The team displayed a perfect blend of strong attacks and disciplined defense, outclassing a determined Malaysian side. Pakistan’s goals came from Rana Waheed Ashraf, Zakariya Hayat, Ahmed Nadeem, Muhammad Sufyan Khan, and Muhammad Ammar, keeping them ahead in the fast-paced contest.

Malaysia scored through Abdul Rauf, Ahkamullah, and Fitri Saari, but their efforts were not enough to catch up. The match featured aggressive play and constant exchanges, yet Pakistan controlled the key moments to secure a two-goal margin.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation praised the team’s performance, while PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, Olympians Islahuddin Siddiqui and Hassan Sardar, and Chief Selector Samiullah Khan congratulated the players for reaching the semi-finals.

Pakistan will now face Austria in their third group match on Wednesday as they aim to continue their successful campaign in the qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Hockey captain Ammad Shakeel Butt has been banned for two years following serious allegations, marking a setback for the team ahead of crucial matches.
