LAHORE (Web Desk): The Punjab government has approved a Rs400 million upgrade for the National Hockey Stadium Lahore, bringing new facilities for hockey players.

Major upgrade approved for hockey stadium

The Punjab government and the Punjab Sports Board have approved the Rs400 million upgrade following a request from the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF).

The project aims to improve the stadium’s condition and provide players with modern facilities that meet international standards.

According to the PHF, the work will focus on improving the playing surface, basic infrastructure and existing facilities. The project will cover both the main stadium and the adjoining practice ground.

A new astro-turf is also planned as part of the National Hockey Stadium Lahore renovation. This is expected to provide players with a better surface for training and competition.

Work expected to finish by January 2027

The renovation is expected to be completed by January 2027, according to the report.

The Rs400 million upgrade will include improvements to existing facilities and infrastructure needed to support players and sporting events.

The new facilities are expected to improve training conditions and help athletes prepare for important competitions.

South Asian Games preparation gains momentum

The project is particularly important because hockey matches are scheduled to take place during the upcoming South Asian Games.
