Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) finally lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy, delivering a dominant performance in the final against Inter Milan. The victory marked redemption for the French side, which had previously lost the 2020 final to Bayern Munich. Under Luis Enrique, PSG overcame a rocky start to this season’s campaign, where they narrowly escaped elimination in the group stage. But in the final, they produced a brilliant display that overwhelmed a more experienced Inter side, securing a resounding 5-0 win, the largest margin ever in a Champions League final.
PSG took control from the very beginning, displaying sharp passing and high-tempo movement. They opened the scoring in the 12th minute when Vitinha found 19-year-old Warren Zaïre-Emery Doue in the box. Despite protests for offside, Inter s Federico Dimarco had kept him on, and Doue calmly assisted former Inter player Achraf Hakimi for a simple tap-in. Just eight minutes later, PSG doubled their lead from a swift counterattack. Ousmane Dembele sent a cross from the left flank that Doue controlled on his chest before his shot, deflected by Dimarco, beat a wrong-footed Yann Sommer.
The French giants added a 3rd in the 63rd minute. Vitinha again played the role of creator, sliding the ball into the box for Doue, who finished confidently past Sommer for his second goal of the night. Inter, stunned by the early goals, struggled to respond and were largely passive throughout the match.
Ten minutes after the third goal, PSG struck again. Dembele, from deep in his own half, played a perfectly timed pass to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who sprinted past the Inter defence and fired past Sommer at the near post. The 4th goal sent the PSG bench into early celebration, with Luis Enrique and his staff knowing the title was secured.
PSG still had time to add a 5th. In the 87th minute, substitute Bradley Barcola set up Senny Mayulu, who made no mistake with a close-range finish. The final whistle brought ecstatic celebrations from PSG fans, who had been vocal throughout the match and were finally rewarded with the club’s first-ever Champions League title.
Inter’s fans had sung their club anthem "There’s Only Inter" before kickoff, but their team failed to show up on the night. PSG, in contrast, delivered a near-perfect performance, both tactically and technically. This landmark victory represents a milestone for the club and a moment of vindication for their Qatari owners, who have long sought European glory.
