Messi got on the scoresheet first, scoring in the 27th minute, and later provided the assist for Suarez’s opener in the 68th minute, giving Miami a 2-0 advantage. Suarez struck again just three minutes later, extending the lead to 3-0 before Montreal’s Dante Sealy responded in the 74th.
Messi added his second goal in the 87th minute to make it 4-1, and Montreal’s Victor Loturi grabbed a late consolation goal two minutes into stoppage time.
The win lifted Inter Miami to sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings, with seven wins and five draws from 15 matches. Montreal, on the other hand, remains at the bottom with just one win, 10 losses, and five draws.
Coming off a stretch of four winless matches, Miami bounced back with a much-needed result.
“We had to take accountability for recent poor performances,” said Suarez. “This win is important — we need to keep building our confidence with results like this.”

Despite the victory, head coach Javier Mascherano expressed concern over injuries to defenders Gonzalo Luján, Jordi Alba, and Tomás Avilés.
“We needed to end the negative run, so I’m pleased,” said Mascherano. “But unfortunately, the joy is dampened by the injuries. Gonzalo and Jordi appear to have muscular issues. With ‘Toto’ [Avilés], it’s an ankle problem from a knock. He wanted to keep playing, so we’ll assess it further.”
Meanwhile, league leaders Philadelphia Union pulled off a dramatic 2-1 comeback win at Toronto. Norway’s Ola Brynhildsen opened the scoring in the 75th minute, but Nathan Harriel equalized in the 86th and Germany’s Kai Wagner secured the victory in stoppage time.
With the win, Philadelphia improved to 10-3-3, leading the league with 33 points. Rivals close behind failed to capitalize — second-place FC Cincinnati drew 3-3 with FC Dallas, while third-place Nashville drew 2-2 with fourth-place Columbus.
