Faisalabad and Gilgit have emerged as the strongest contenders for inclusion in the league’s next phase.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sources, there is strong likelihood of consensus on adding franchises named after Faisalabad and Gilgit. The PCB had earlier shortlisted six potential names, which included Faisalabad, Gilgit, Sialkot, Hyderabad, Rawalpindi and Muzaffarabad.

The PCB has officially invited expressions of interest for the purchase of two new teams. Meanwhile, sources confirmed that the ongoing dispute between the PCB and Multan Sultans remains unresolved, adding a layer of complexity to the expansion process.

The sources further revealed that the standoff between the PCB and Multan Sultans is yet to be resolved, with the 2021 champions still awaiting the renewal offer letter, comprising the revised franchise fees for the upcoming 10-year cycle.

The PCB has sent valuation documents to five existing franchises. Following the valuation review, the PCB has also offered renewal opportunities to these five franchises.

The renewal offers were extended to five franchises – Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators – after the cricket board finalised the independent valuation process for the marquee league's franchises and other commercial assets earlier this month. Franchises have been asked to respond within the specified deadline.

As anticipation builds, the addition of two new teams is expected to reshape the competitive structure of the league, potentially increasing engagement and reach across new regions of Pakistan.
