(Web Desk): Former England cricketer Moeen Ali has announced his return to the Pakistan Super League (PSL), expressing excitement to be part of the T20 league’s new era.

The league is expanding to eight teams after its 10th edition earlier this year, adding two new franchises to the competition. Moeen previously played for Multan Sultans in 2020 and 2021 and is eager to rejoin the marquee tournament.

Since its launch in 2016, the PSL has earned a reputation for high-level T20 cricket, featuring close contests and world-class talent across all teams. Moeen shared on Instagram, “The league has earned a reputation for top-level T20 cricket, with high-quality competition and world-class talent across every team.”

The 38-year-old has represented England in 68 Tests, 138 ODIs, and 92 T20Is. He also toured Pakistan with the England squad in 2022 for a historic three-match Test series and has made multiple visits to the country over his career.

Reflecting on his previous PSL experiences, Moeen praised the enthusiastic crowds, saying their energy pushes players to perform their best. “Playing in Pakistan is always incredible; the quality of cricket is outstanding and the passion and intensity from the crowd push you to bring your best,” he said.

He added, “I’m looking forward to being part of it all and creating some great memories along the way. Ready for another special experience Insha‘Allah!”

Moeen’s announcement comes shortly after former South African captain Faf du Plessis withdrew from the Indian Premier League to participate in the upcoming PSL season. On November 29, du Plessis posted on Instagram that he would skip the IPL auction this year, describing it as “a big decision, and one that comes with a lot of gratitude when I look back.”

Experts believe Moeen Ali’s return highlights PSL’s growing international appeal. The league’s expansion and competitive quality are attracting top stars who might have otherwise played in IPL or other tournaments. Analysts also note that the enthusiastic Pakistani crowds make the PSL experience unique, encouraging more players to consider the league. This season could set new benchmarks for performance and fan engagement.
