Kamran Akmal raises fresh concerns over Pakistan bowling attack
Akmal said England does not appear as strong as it has in previous years. However, he believes Pakistan could still face serious problems because of weaknesses in its bowling attack.
He pointed to England’s key batters as an important factor in the series. According to Akmal, Pakistan could benefit greatly if Harry Brook and Joe Root fail to make major contributions.
“If Harry Brook and Joe Root do not score, then England will be in trouble,” Akmal said, stressing the importance of the two batters.
Kamran Akmal questions Pakistan bowling strength
Akmal’s biggest concern was Pakistan’s bowling department. He said Mohammad Abbas is currently the only bowler in the setup with significant experience.
The former wicketkeeper believes Pakistan needs a stronger and more reliable bowling attack to compete successfully against England. He suggested that experience could become especially important during difficult Test conditions.
Pakistan’s bowlers will face a major challenge against England’s batting lineup. The team will need to take regular wickets rather than depending heavily on a few individual performances.
Akmal’s comments also reflect wider concerns about Pakistan’s Test cricket results. The former player believes the team needs more than short-term changes to improve its performances.
Akmal calls for tough decisions in Pakistan cricket
Akmal was also highly critical of the overall state of Pakistan cricket. He argued that the sport needs serious attention and important decisions from those responsible for running the game.
“Pakistan cricket has become a joke. If we do not fix it, it will be worse than hockey,” he said.
He called for a detailed review of both the team and its management. Akmal believes officials and players must “think seriously” about the problems affecting Pakistan cricket.
The former cricketer said difficult decisions may be necessary if Pakistan wants to improve. He suggested that simply making minor adjustments would not be enough to solve the team’s longer-term problems.
His comments come as Pakistan prepares for a demanding Test assignment against England. The series will provide another major test of the team’s batting, bowling and overall planning.
Mohammad Abbas also comes under criticism
Akmal also raised concerns about Mohammad Abbas and his recent career choices. He claimed the experienced pacer lost valuable time by repeatedly prioritising “peace”.
The remarks highlight Akmal’s belief that Pakistan needs experienced players who can consistently perform at international level. He suggested that the bowling unit needs greater stability before the England series.
Abbas has previously been regarded as one of Pakistan’s most effective Test bowlers, particularly because of his accuracy and ability to create pressure through disciplined bowling.
Akmal’s criticism, however, suggests that he wants Pakistan’s experienced players to take greater responsibility at an important stage for the national team.

England may offer Pakistan an opportunity
Despite his criticism, Akmal does not believe Pakistan is without a chance. He said England currently looks weaker than it has in previous years.
That could provide Pakistan with an opportunity if the team can exploit England’s weaknesses. However, Akmal’s warning suggests that Pakistan cannot afford another inconsistent performance from its bowling attack.
England’s key batters will be closely watched during the series. If Pakistan can remove Root and Brook cheaply, it could significantly improve its chances of putting pressure on the hosts.
For Pakistan, the challenge will be turning individual talent into a balanced team performance. Strong bowling, disciplined batting and better decision-making will all be required.
