NEW YORK: (Web Desk) India scored an average total of 119 in their 20 overs in the T20 World Cup 2024 group stage clash in New York on Sunday.

The mother of all battles in world cricket witnessed team India take on arch-rivals Pakistan after Pakistan’s captain won the toss and elected to field first.

Put to bat first, skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli started decently in the powerplay with both batters taking things steady. After the play resumed following a slight rain delay, Virat Kohli saw another inning go to the waist as he was dismissed on just 4 runs courtesy of a Naseem Shah delivery.

Despite continuing to hit aggressively, skipper Rohit Sharma also departed at an unlucky 13 after Shaheen Afridi got his first wicket of the day.

It was the all-important partnership of Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel that got India some sort of momentum into the game. While Axar Patel had to depart for 20 runs, Pant batted on and hit some good shots all over the ground.

With the score at 96/7, it was Hardik Pandya (7) and Arshdeep Singh (9) who took the responsibility for a strong finish.

Rishabh Pant eventually top-scored for the Men in Blue as it powered India to an average total of 119 in their 20 overs.

Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf led the Pakistan bowling line-up, taking three wickets each on the day as Mohd Amir ended up with 2 wickets to his name.
