(Web Desk): Abdul Samad rescued Pakistan Shaheens from early trouble with a stunning century as they beat Melbourne Renegades Academy by 73 runs in the Top End T20.

Early today in Darwin, the Pakistan Shaheens found themselves in deep trouble losing both openers for zero runs and sliding to 2 for 2. But Abdul Samad stepped up and changed the course of the game.

The 27-year-old smashed an unbeaten 110 off just 63 balls, reaching his century in just 56 deliveries. His innings featured six fours and six sixes.

Samad teamed up with skipper Mohammad Irfan Khan, who contributed a quick 23, for a 109-run partnership that brought the Shaheens to a strong total of 178 for 5 in their 20 overs.

In reply, the Melbourne side collapsed under disciplined bowling. Only Josh Brown offered resistance with a 36 off 30 balls, while the rest of the batting line-up fell one by one.

Left-arm spinner Maaz Sadaqat claimed 3 wickets for 22 runs, and Faisal Akram chipped in with 2 for 19 as the Renegades were bundled out for 105 in 19.2 overs handing the Shaheens a convincing 73-run win.

Pakistan Shaheens will now face the Chicago Kingsmen next in the tournament.
