The Karachi Matric Exams 2026 under the Board of Secondary Education Karachi are set to begin on April 7, with authorities introducing a new exam rule requiring students to write answers strictly using ballpoint pens.
According to officials, approximately 385,000 candidates will participate in the annual Class 9 and Class 10 examinations, with around 580 exam centers established across Karachi to accommodate students.
New Ballpoint Pen Rule for Exam Papers
In a significant change, the matric board has made it mandatory for students to use ballpoint pens only while attempting their exam papers. The move aims to standardize answer sheets and improve the evaluation process.
Enhanced Security Measures with Watermarked Papers
To prevent paper leaks and ensure transparency, exam papers will first be distributed to 26 hub centers across 19 towns, before being dispatched to examination centers. Additionally, authorities have introduced watermarked question papers this year to track and prevent any unauthorized leaks.

E-Marking and New Grading System Introduced
The exams will also be conducted under a modernized system featuring e-marking and a new grading structure, aimed at improving accuracy and efficiency in result compilation.
Admit cards for regular students have been uploaded to the board’s official website, while private candidates have received their roll number slips via postal delivery.
Technical Issues Raise Concerns
However, technical glitches in the board’s server have caused difficulties for several students attempting to download their admit cards. In response, private school associations have urged authorities to delay the exams by one week to resolve the issue.
Despite these concerns, officials maintain that preparations for the Karachi Matric Exams 2026 are complete, with strict monitoring and security measures in place to ensure smooth conduct.
