(Web Desk): Pakistani boxer Fatima Zahra has made history after securing the first medal for Pakistan in the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Fatima delivered a stellar performance and advanced to the semi-finals in the 60kg category on Thursday night as she defeated her Algerian opponent, Hamda Melissa, 5-0 in the quarter-final match.

Raising Pakistan’s flag high on the international stage, Fatima has guaranteed at least a bronze medal, as per boxing regulations which award both semifinalists a medal.

Pakistan Boxing Federation secretary Major Irfan Younis praised Fatima and said “She is a very hardworking athlete and finally her efforts are paying off, she confirmed the bronze medal with this victory.

“We hope for great results in the semi-final as well.”

Pakistan’s 87-member contingent is participating in nine different sports at the ongoing Islamic Solidarity Games.

Fatima’s achievement marks a proud moment for Pakistan, highlighting the growing presence and success of women in the country’s boxing arena.

She belongs to Sargodha and has been boxing since 2018. She is a Pakistan Army athlete.

She represented Pakistan earlier at the Asian Games and the Olympic qualifiers.

She solidified her place as the top women's boxer to represent the country, as she has been a national champion in her weight class for the last four years.
