Astronomers have released preliminary forecasts suggesting that Eid ul Adha 2026 is likely to be observed on Wednesday, May 27, according to early lunar calculations and astronomical data.

Experts from the Emirates Astronomical Society indicate that the first day of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah is expected to begin on May 18, while Arafat Day is likely to fall on May 26.

Moon Sighting Predictions for Dhul Hijjah

According to astronomers, the crescent moon marking the start of Dhul Hijjah is expected to be born on May 17. Its visibility at sunset will depend on its age and altitude, which experts say may allow it to be sighted in several regions under favorable weather conditions.

Chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society, Ibrahim Al Jarwan, noted that the astronomical conditions indicate a strong possibility of moon sighting on the evening of May 17, supporting the projected Islamic calendar timeline.

The new moon is expected to be born at 12:01 PM UAE time on May 17, further aligning with the forecasted start of Dhul Hijjah on May 18.

Despite astronomical predictions, officials emphasized that the final confirmation of Eid ul Adha will be made by relevant religious authorities after official moon sighting announcements.
