(Web Desk): Electric bike prices climb in Pakistan as fuel costs and logistics pressures push demand higher.

Prices of electric bikes in Pakistan have increased by up to Rs5,000, as rising fuel costs and regional tensions drive higher demand for alternative transportation. Industry sources say the surge is linked to escalating petrol prices and concerns over supply disruptions stemming from ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

According to bike assemblers, increasing operational expenses have forced manufacturers to revise prices upward. Higher sea freight charges, logistics costs, and the rising expense of diesel-powered transportation have significantly impacted overall production and distribution costs. The revised prices have already taken effect for some companies from April 3, while others are set to implement the increase from April 10.

Electric bikes, which are gaining popularity as a cost-effective and eco-friendly option, are now priced between Rs125,000 and Rs350,000 depending on battery capacity, range, and motor type.

An assembler revealed in a letter that shipping companies have raised freight charges by 30%, while the Transporters of Goods Association has announced a 60% increase in fares due to surging diesel prices. These factors have collectively contributed to the price hike.

Demand for electric bikes continues to grow rapidly, with one assembler reporting sales of over 7,000 units in March alone. Meanwhile, petrol-powered bike sales remain strong, though upcoming data from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association is expected to provide clearer insight into future market trends.
