Weather alert: PMD forecasts drizzle in Karachi, intense heat to grip Lahore
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh weather forecast, predicting light drizzle in parts of Karachi while warning that Lahore will continue to experience intense heat and dry weather.
According to the PMD, Karachi's sky remained partly cloudy on Saturday, with the city's temperature recorded at 30°C in the morning. The maximum temperature is expected to rise to 36°C during the day.
The department said the minimum temperature in Karachi was 29°C, while southwesterly winds were blowing at a speed of 15 kilometres per hour. Humidity was recorded at 78 percent, making the weather feel warmer than the actual temperature.
The PMD added that the concentration of airborne particulate matter remained below the super particulate meter threshold, indicating relatively better air quality. It also forecast the possibility of light drizzle at a few locations in the city later in the day.
Meanwhile, Lahore is expected to experience another day of hot and dry weather, with no chance of rainfall.
The current temperature in Lahore was recorded at 34°C, while the maximum temperature could reach 39°C. Weather officials said humidity levels between 53 and 54 percent are likely to increase the intensity of the heat despite light winds blowing at around 3 kilometres per hour.
The PMD also warned that Lahore's UV Index could reach an extremely dangerous level of 12, increasing the risk of sunburn and heat-related illnesses for people spending long periods outdoors.
Authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated and take precautionary measures, especially children, elderly people and those with existing health conditions.
The weather department expects Lahore's hot and dry conditions to continue over the coming days, while Karachi may experience isolated light showers due to moist sea winds.
