Rain alert for multiple cities across Pakistan as PDMA warns of flooding
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has forecast rain in several upper districts, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner and Malakand. Bajaur and Kohistan are also expected to receive rainfall during the forecast period.
Plains may also receive rain
Several plain areas are also likely to experience rainfall and thunderstorms. These include Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera, Kohat, Kurram and Hangu.
The PDMA warned that low-lying areas of Mardan and Swabi could face urban flooding. Heavy rain in mountainous areas could also increase the risk of landslides.
Strong winds pose risks
The authority warned that strong winds and thunderstorms could damage weak buildings and structures. Electricity poles, billboards and solar panels could also be affected by severe weather.
District administrations have been directed to take precautionary steps in vulnerable locations. Authorities have also been asked to continuously monitor rivers, streams and stormwater channels.
Public urged to stay safe
The PDMA advised people to stay away from rivers and waterways during rainfall. Parents were also asked to keep children away from ponds, streams and other water channels.
People should avoid exposed electrical wires and electrical appliances during thunderstorms. Tourists have also been advised to avoid unnecessary travel while weather conditions remain dangerous.
Rescue teams put on alert
Rescue teams and emergency equipment have been directed to remain ready for possible flooding and landslides. Authorities are expected to monitor vulnerable areas and respond quickly if weather-related emergencies occur.
Citizens can contact the PDMA toll-free helpline at 1700 for weather updates and emergency reports. People in affected areas have been advised to follow official warnings and take precautions.
The latest warning shows that heavy rain could create problems in both urban and mountainous areas. Low-lying locations face flooding risks, while hills could see landslides after prolonged rainfall.
Residents can reduce risks by avoiding waterways and unnecessary travel during severe weather. Early precautions and quick emergency response could help limit damage if conditions worsen.
