Punjab rain alert: Heavy monsoon showers lash several districts
Most districts across Punjab received monsoon rainfall during the past 24 hours, with several areas recording significant amounts, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab.
Rawalpindi recorded the highest rainfall at 130mm, followed by Attock with 79mm. Lahore Airport received 65mm, while Wazirabad recorded 50mm.
Gujranwala and Jhelum each received 39mm of rain, while Narowal recorded 33mm and Mandi Bahauddin 30mm.
Gujrat received 19mm, Sialkot 11mm and Murree 7mm during the same period.
More Rain Expected
The PDMA has forecast further monsoon showers across most districts of Punjab during the next 24 hours.
The sixth spell of monsoon rains is expected to continue until August 21, raising concerns about urban flooding, water accumulation and other rain-related risks in vulnerable areas.
Authorities Put on Alert
PDMA Punjab Director General Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa said commissioners, deputy commissioners and relevant departments across the province have been directed to remain alert following instructions from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Officials have been asked to closely monitor the situation and respond quickly if heavy rainfall creates emergencies.
Safety Advisory for Citizens
Authorities have urged citizens to avoid staying in weak or damaged houses, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
Residents have also been advised to remain in safe places during thunderstorms and lightning.
The PDMA has asked citizens to contact its emergency helpline at 1129 in case of any emergency or rain-related incident.
With more rain expected until August 21, residents in low-lying and vulnerable areas have been advised to remain cautious and follow official safety instructions.
