The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a fresh flood update, warning that monsoon rains have increased water levels in several major rivers across the province.

According to the latest situation report, low-level flooding continues in the Indus River at Tarbela and Chashma, where water flows have reached approximately 336,000 cusecs and 302,000 cusecs, respectively.

The Chenab River is experiencing the most significant pressure. PDMA said high-level flooding has been recorded at Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad. Water flow at Marala stands at around 195,000 cusecs, while Khanki has recorded 262,000 cusecs and Qadirabad 245,000 cusecs.

Meanwhile, water levels in the Jhelum and Sutlej rivers remain within the normal range. On the Ravi River, the flow at Balloki has reached 73,000 cusecs, while Shahdara and Head Sidhnai continue to report normal conditions.

Authorities also reported moderate flooding in the Basantar stream in Narowal, while low-level flooding has developed in the Bhimber stream near Gujrat and the Palkhu stream near Wazirabad. Officials said recent rainfall in upper catchment areas has contributed to the rise in river flows.

PDMA Director General Umar Abbas Mela said rainfall in the upper Chenab catchments has stopped and river flow has remained stable over the past 12 hours. However, he urged people living in riverbeds and low-lying areas to move to safer locations immediately.

The Punjab government said flood relief camps have been fully prepared with food, medicines and essential facilities. Citizens have been advised to avoid rivers, canals and streams, use only safe boats with life jackets when crossing waterways, and ensure children stay away from floodwaters.
