The Punjab government has extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province and prolonged the ban on outdoor drone operations for another 30 days, citing security concerns.

The decision was announced by the Punjab Home Department, which said the restrictions are aimed at maintaining public safety, protecting property and ensuring law and order across the province.

Under the latest notification, the use of drones in outdoor areas will remain prohibited. However, the government has allowed the limited use of small drones inside marriage halls, marquees and other indoor event venues. Event organisers will be responsible for ensuring that drones are operated safely during such gatherings.

The notification also exempts intelligence agencies and law enforcement authorities from the restrictions, allowing them to continue using drones for official security and operational purposes.

To regulate lawful drone operations, the Home Department has established Safe Drone Usage Committees at the district level. These committees will be responsible for issuing written permission for drone operations related to agriculture, irrigation, research and other approved activities.

Drone operators who obtain written approval from the district committee will be exempt from the ban for the specific purpose and duration mentioned in the permit.

Officials said the restrictions have been imposed under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, which allows authorities to introduce temporary measures to prevent threats to public order.

The Punjab government stated that safeguarding citizens, maintaining peace and protecting public property remain its top priorities. Residents have been advised to comply with the restrictions, as violations may result in legal action under the applicable laws.
