PMD warns of smog and cold weather in major cities across Pakistan
Most parts of Pakistan are expected to remain dry on Friday, November 6, while northern areas will experience cold and partly cloudy weather. Light rain and thunderstorms are also possible in some parts of Balochistan.
According to the PMD’s latest weather advisory, a westerly weather system is affecting the upper parts of the country. It is expected to continue until Friday morning before gradually moving away.
Fog and smog alert for Punjab
Most districts of Punjab are likely to experience dry weather. However, morning fog and smog may affect Lahore, Narowal, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur and nearby areas.
Strong winds are also expected in upper Punjab during the daytime. Murree, Galiyat and surrounding areas are likely to experience colder weather, especially during the morning and night.
The weather conditions may affect visibility on roads, particularly during early morning hours. Motorists should remain careful while travelling through areas affected by fog and smog.
Weather forecast for Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Islamabad and nearby areas are expected to experience dry weather with partly cloudy skies. Most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also remain dry, while upper areas are likely to experience colder and partly cloudy conditions.
The PMD has not forecast any major rainfall in these regions. However, temperatures are expected to remain low in northern parts of the province.
Light rain and snowfall possible in Balochistan
Most districts of Sindh are expected to remain dry, with no significant rainfall predicted. Balochistan will also experience mostly dry weather, but some northeastern areas may receive light rain and thunderstorms.
The areas that could receive rainfall include Barkhan, Musakhel, Chaman, Pishin, Zhob, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Quetta, Ziarat, Kalat, Nokkundi and Khuzdar. Light snowfall is also possible in mountainous areas.
Cold weather and weekly outlook for northern areas
Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are expected to remain partly cloudy, with colder conditions during the morning and nighttime. The PMD has also predicted mostly dry weather across Pakistan over the weekend.
According to the weekly forecast, fog and smog may continue to affect northeastern and southern Punjab on November 7 and 8. This means Lahore and other affected cities may continue to face reduced visibility during morning hours.
Rainfall and temperature update
During the previous 24 hours, most parts of Pakistan experienced dry weather, while northern areas remained cold and partly cloudy. However, some areas of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab received light rainfall.
Khuzdar recorded 2mm of rain, while Quetta received 1mm. Light rainfall was also reported in Chitral, Dera Ismail Khan and Layyah.
The PMD forecast suggests that dry weather will continue in most parts of Pakistan, but fog and smog remain major concerns for Punjab. Lahore and other busy cities may face visibility problems during morning hours.
People travelling early should take extra care, especially on highways and busy roads. The possible continuation of smog over the weekend also shows that the problem may not disappear quickly.
