Pakistan monsoon spell to continue as heavy rain hits several areas
Director General of the Meteorological Department Irfan Virk said the current monsoon spell would remain active for a few more days before a short break. Another spell of rain is expected afterward.
He said monsoon rain spells can continue in Pakistan until October, meaning more wet weather may be seen in the coming weeks.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi face flooding
Heavy rain has already affected Islamabad and Rawalpindi, leaving several low-lying areas flooded. Water levels in Nullah Lai reached around 20 feet at Katarian following intense rainfall.
Intermittent rain has also continued in several other parts of the country.
Heavy rain expected in Murree and KP
Virk said upper parts of Pakistan could receive intermittent rain, while heavy rainfall is expected in Murree and the Galiyat region.
Different areas may receive heavy rain during the next three to four days. Islamabad and the Potohar region could also see another round of rainfall.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, heavy rain is expected until August 21 in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner and Kohistan.
Rain is also possible in Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda, Nowshera and Kohat.
Sindh weather outlook
Sindh is expected to remain hot and humid, although some areas of southeastern Sindh may receive rain.
Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable and low-lying areas to remain cautious as heavy rainfall could increase the risk of urban flooding and rising water levels.
