(Web Desk): The NDMA has warned that heavy monsoon rains could trigger flash floods, rising rivers, and urban flooding across northern Pakistan.

Pakistan flood alert has been issued as the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) warned of flash floods, rising river levels, and urban flooding in several parts of the country between July 19 and 23.

According to the NDMA, a strong monsoon system combined with a powerful westerly weather pattern is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 20 to 23. The affected regions include Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and upper Punjab.

The authority said the intense rainfall could trigger flash floods in mountainous areas and cause hill torrents in vulnerable regions. Local administrations and emergency services have been advised to remain on high alert and take precautionary measures to reduce potential risks.

The NDMA also warned that low-lying urban areas may experience flooding due to heavy downpours, which could disrupt traffic, damage infrastructure, and affect daily life. Residents living near rivers, streams, and drainage channels have been urged to stay informed about weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.

In addition, the authority forecast a rise in water levels in the Chenab River at Marala and the upper reaches of the Jhelum River near Mangla, where flood flows are expected. Officials will continue to monitor the situation closely and issue further advisories if conditions worsen.

The NDMA has advised the public to follow official weather alerts, avoid crossing flooded roads or streams, and cooperate with local authorities. The latest warning comes as Pakistan continues to face an active monsoon season, increasing the risk of weather-related emergencies across several regions.
