NDMA issues alert as thunderstorms and heavy rain forecast across Pakistan
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert as weather conditions across Pakistan are expected to change significantly, bringing clouds, thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall to several regions.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, moist weather systems are likely to enter the country, resulting in widespread rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in the coming hours.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, and Chakwal are among the key areas expected to receive moderate to heavy showers with thunderstorms. Authorities have warned residents to remain cautious during strong winds and lightning activity, especially in open areas and near weak structures.
The Met Office also stated that upper regions of the country are likely to experience more intense rainfall activity, with dense cloud formations already developing in mountainous zones. Continuous rainfall is expected in some areas, raising concerns about possible water accumulation and travel disruptions.
NDMA has advised local administrations to stay alert and ensure emergency response teams remain on standby. Citizens have also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions and to take precautionary measures, particularly in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
Weather experts say the current system may bring relief from heat in several parts of the country, but it also carries risks of localized flooding and urban drainage issues.
Further updates will be issued as the weather system progresses across different regions. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure public safety.
