(Web Desk): Karachi monsoon showers have brought the season’s first rainfall, with more wet weather expected over the next few days.

The city received its first spell of monsoon rain after light to moderate showers were reported in several neighbourhoods. The rainfall brought cooler weather and marked the beginning of the monsoon season in Karachi.

According to reports, rain fell in Azizabad, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Sharea Faisal, Sohrab Goth, Gulshan-i-Maymar, Ancholi, Manghopir, Surjani Town, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Super Highway, Ahsanabad and Nazimabad. Residents in these areas experienced light to moderate rainfall during the day.

Several other parts of the city also received rain, including Site Area, Rizvia, Golimar, Liaquatabad, Orangi Town, Benaras, Ibrahim Hyderi, Clifton, DHA, Korangi, Landhi, Malir, Shah Faisal Colony and Model Town. The widespread showers affected traffic movement in different localities.

Following the rainfall, Karachi Traffic Police advised motorists to drive carefully because the roads had become “slippery”. Authorities urged drivers to reduce their speed and avoid unnecessary travel during rainy conditions.

Motorcycle riders were especially advised to stay on the left side of the road and travel with extra caution. Officials said careful driving could help prevent accidents during the wet weather.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast cloudy skies and light rain in Karachi over the next three to four days. The weather department expects monsoon conditions to continue affecting the city during this period.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority and district administrations across Sindh to remain on high alert. He instructed all concerned departments to ensure emergency response teams and precautionary measures were fully prepared.

The chief minister said strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are continuing to influence weather conditions across Sindh. Authorities have been asked to closely monitor the situation and respond quickly to any emergencies.

The first monsoon spell has provided relief from the heat but has also increased the risk of slippery roads and traffic disruptions. If more rain arrives in the coming days, timely precautions and emergency preparedness will be important for public safety.
