Heavy rainfall across Punjab causes 2 fatalities and 9 injuries
In a statement issued on Thursday, Punjab Rescue 1122 spokesperson Farooq Ahmad said the fatalities and injuries were caused by weather-related accidents, including the collapse of walls, rooftops and a billboard amid strong winds and heavy rainfall.
According to Ahmad, two people lost their lives and three others were injured after a wall collapsed near Naya Pump in Attock. In a separate incident in the Para Shaheen Bagh area, three more people sustained injuries when the roof of a house gave way.
Meanwhile, a lightning strike in Qaidabad, Khushab, left one person injured. Another individual was hurt in Sargodha after strong winds caused a signboard to collapse, the spokesperson added.
In Sheikhupura, another person was injured after the wooden roof of a house collapsed on Chak Risala Road.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that Mandi Bahauddin received the highest rainfall between 8pm and 11pm on Wednesday, recording 23mm.
It was followed by Murree with 17mm, while Hafizabad and Sheikhupura each recorded 14mm during the same period.
Moderate to light rainfall was also recorded in several other areas, including Gujranwala (11mm), Lahore Airport and Gujrat (10mm each), Garhi Dupatta (10mm), Lahore and Jhelum (6mm each), Mangla (5mm), Kakul, Balakot, Barkhan, Islamabad's Zero Point and Chaklala (4mm each), Kotli and Malam Jabba (3mm each), as well as Pattan, Chakwal and Dera Ghazi Khan, which each received 1mm.
Earlier this week, the PMD had forecast the onset of a fresh monsoon spell across Pakistan during the first week of July.
The annual monsoon season, which typically extends from June to September, provides much-needed relief from soaring summer temperatures and plays a vital role in replenishing the country's water resources.
However, intense rainfall frequently results in flash floods, landslides and widespread displacement, particularly in low-lying, densely populated and poorly drained areas.
