Heavy rain raises water level in Nullah Lai, Rawalpindi on alert
Heavy rainfall in Rawalpindi and Islamabad has increased the flow of Nullah Lai, raising concerns in low-lying areas as authorities remain on high alert.
According to WASA, the water level at Kattarian has reached 11 feet, while it stands at 6 feet near the Gawalmandi Bridge.
Rainfall recorded across Rawalpindi
Several areas received significant rainfall. Golra recorded 60mm, Bokra 31mm, Shamsabad 25mm, Pirwadhai 25mm, New Katarian 21mm and Gawalmandi 22mm.
WASA Managing Director said staff equipped with heavy machinery have been deployed along Nullah Lai and other vulnerable areas. Additional teams have also been stationed in low-lying locations to respond quickly to any emergency.
Rain emergency declared
A rain emergency has been declared in Rawalpindi due to the current weather conditions. Officials are continuously monitoring Nullah Lai and other drains.
The district administration has issued a pre-alert after the water level rose in Nullah Lai and advised residents living near the drain to remain cautious.
The deputy commissioner said all necessary arrangements have been completed to deal with any emergency situation.
Weather conditions in major cities
Meanwhile, Karachi is expected to remain partly cloudy, with temperatures reaching 29 degrees Celsius in the morning.
In Lahore, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 34°C, while the minimum is likely to remain around 28°C. Winds may blow at around 5km per hour, with humidity expected to reach 85%.
More rain expected
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast more rain accompanied by thunderstorms in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert as further rainfall could increase water levels in drains and streams.
