Heatwave tightens grip as temperatures soar across Pakistan
Hot and dry weather is expected to continue across most parts of Pakistan on Friday, with the weather department advising citizens to take precautionary measures as temperatures remain above normal in several regions.
According to the latest forecast, large parts of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to remain under the grip of intense heat. Meteorologists said daytime temperatures in many districts could stay significantly higher than seasonal averages.
The weather department said Islamabad and nearby areas are expected to remain hot and dry throughout the day. Similar conditions are likely across most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where strong sunshine is expected to continue.
In southern Punjab, authorities have warned of severe heat in Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Bhakkar and Rahim Yar Khan. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight, especially during afternoon hours.
Across Balochistan, most areas are also expected to remain hot and dry. In Sibi, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Nasirabad and Lasbela, dusty winds are expected after midday. Similar heatwave conditions are likely across much of Sindh.
The weather department said dry weather is also expected in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The highest temperature recorded in the country a day earlier was 47°C in Dadu, while Turbat, Mohenjo-daro and Larkana reached 46°C.
Officials have urged people to drink more water, limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours and take extra care of children, elderly people and outdoor workers.
