Dense fog has disrupted traffic across major parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh, forcing authorities to close several motorway sections to ensure public safety.

According to a Motorway Police spokesperson, the M1 motorway from Peshawar to Buhan, M3 from Faizpur to Darkhana, M4 from Faisalabad to Multan, and M5 from Multan to Zahirpir were closed for all types of traffic due to extremely low visibility.

In addition, the entry of heavy vehicles has been temporarily prohibited on the M5 motorway between Rahim Yar Khan and Rohri, where fog conditions remain particularly hazardous.

Visibility Concerns on National Highways

Motorway Police confirmed that dense fog has also been reported in multiple cities along the National Highway network, significantly reducing visibility and increasing the risk of accidents.

Officials stated that lane violations during foggy conditions can result in serious collisions, urging motorists to strictly observe lane discipline and traffic regulations.

Safety Advisory Issued for Motorists

To prevent accidents, motorists have been advised to use fog lights, reduce speed, and maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead. Authorities have also cautioned drivers against sudden braking and abrupt lane changes.

Travelers have been strongly encouraged to prefer daytime travel, as the Motorway Police have identified 10:00am to 6:00pm as the safest window when visibility is relatively improved.

Motorway Police urged citizens to avoid unnecessary journeys during foggy conditions and to remain informed through official advisories. Commuters may contact the Motorway Police helpline 130 for real-time updates, guidance, or emergency assistance.

Monitoring teams remain deployed on major routes to manage traffic flow and respond promptly as weather conditions evolve.

Fog Expected to Persist

Authorities warned that fog is likely to return during late-night and early-morning hours throughout the winter season. Additional restrictions may be imposed if visibility deteriorates further, particularly on high-speed routes linking major urban centers.
