Dense fog has led to the suspension of traffic on several motorway sections across Pakistan, as visibility dropped to dangerously low levels, prompting safety-driven closures by the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP).
According to Motorway Police officials, traffic on Motorway M-1 was partially restored after visibility improved, with the section from Swabi to Burhan reopened for traffic. However, the Peshawar to Swabi stretch of M-1 remains closed due to persistent foggy conditions.
Authorities also confirmed that traffic has been suspended on Motorway M-14, particularly on sections from Hakla to Dera Ismail Khan and Tarap to Isa Khel, where dense fog continues to impair visibility.
Similarly, Motorway M-2 has been closed from Lillah to Kot Momin, while traffic traveling towards Lahore from Islamabad Main Toll Plaza to Kallar Kahar has also been halted due to poor visibility caused by fog.

Closures Implemented for Public Safety
Motorway Police stated that the temporary suspension of traffic is aimed at preventing potential accidents and ensuring the safety of commuters. Officials emphasized that high-speed travel during fog significantly increases the risk of serious collisions.
Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, especially during late-night and early-morning hours, and to check the latest traffic situation before starting their journey.
Safety Advisory for Motorists
Despite partial reopening on some routes, authorities warned that fog is likely to return during nighttime and early morning hours. The NHMP issued a detailed safety advisory for motorists traveling in foggy conditions:
- Reduce speed and drive cautiously
- Use fog lights and low-beam headlights
- Maintain a safe distance from vehicles ahead
- Avoid sudden lane changes and abrupt braking
- Strictly follow lane discipline
- Prefer travel between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm
- Avoid unnecessary journeys, especially at night
Motorists were also advised to use alternative routes such as GT Road where possible.

Helpline and Ongoing Monitoring
The Motorway Police stressed that fog conditions can worsen suddenly during winter. Commuters are advised to stay updated through official advisories and contact the Motorway Police helpline 130 for real-time traffic updates, route guidance, or emergency assistance.
Authorities reiterated that public cooperation is essential to ensure road safety during the ongoing winter fog season, warning that additional restrictions may be imposed if visibility deteriorates further.
