The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a severe cold wave alert for multiple regions of Pakistan, warning that harsh winter conditions are expected to persist in the coming days, particularly in the north and parts of Balochistan.
According to the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), the advisory covers Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, and northern Balochistan, where temperatures are forecast to remain dangerously low.
Sharp Drop in Temperatures in Balochistan Cities
The NDMA warned of a sharp increase in cold intensity in Quetta, Ziarat, and Kalat, urging residents to prepare for extremely cold weather. Authorities advised people to limit exposure to cold, ensure proper heating arrangements, and protect vulnerable family members.

Health Risks and Crop Damage Warning
Officials cautioned that the ongoing severe cold wave could significantly increase respiratory illnesses, particularly among children, elderly individuals, and people with pre-existing health conditions.
The NDMA also warned that prolonged cold conditions may damage standing crops, posing a risk to agricultural productivity. Farmers have been advised to adopt protective measures to minimize potential losses.
Dense Fog Advisory for Plain Areas
In addition to freezing temperatures, the NDMA issued a dense fog warning for plain areas, especially during early morning and late-night hours. Reduced visibility may lead to traffic accidents, and commuters have been urged to exercise extreme caution.
Motorists are advised to:
- Avoid unnecessary travel during foggy hours
- Maintain safe distances
- Use fog lights
- Follow official advisories
Authorities on High Alert
The NDMA stated that it is ensuring timely early warnings and continuous dissemination of information to relevant departments and the public. Provincial and local authorities have been directed to stay alert and prepared to respond to any emergency situations caused by the cold wave.
Citizens have been urged to stay updated through official weather bulletins and take precautionary steps to protect their health, livelihoods, and property.
