(Web Desk): Cold and dry weather has gripped parts of Pakistan as temperatures plunge, dense fog spreads across plains, and authorities issue cold wave alerts nationwide.

A cold wave across Pakistan is expected to intensify on Sunday as cold and dry weather dominates most regions, with extremely low temperatures in hilly areas and dense fog affecting plains, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The PMD warned that night and early-morning fog could significantly disrupt road travel in several cities, urging commuters to exercise caution during winter conditions.

In Islamabad and surrounding areas, cold and dry weather will prevail, while fog is likely to develop late at night and linger into the morning hours.

Across Punjab, cold and dry conditions are forecast for most districts, with extremely cold weather and dense fog expected in Murree, Galiyat, and nearby areas. Moderate to severe fog is likely to affect large parts of central and southern Punjab, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, and Khanewal, among others.

In Balochistan, cold and dry weather will continue in most districts, while extremely cold conditions are expected in northern areas. Southwestern districts such as Jiwani, Pasni, Ormara, Kech, and Turbat may witness partly cloudy skies with light rain or snowfall.

Punjab Braces for Cold Wave as PDMA Issues Alert

Separately, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a cold wave alert from January 10 to 16, warning of a sharp drop in temperatures across the province.

According to PDMA, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, and the Potohar region may experience snowfall along with intense cold, while fog and smog conditions could worsen in several districts.

The authority has advised educational institutions to ensure students wear warm clothing and classrooms are protected against harsh weather. All relevant departments, including Health, Education, Transport, Rescue 1122, and Local Government, have been directed to remain on high alert.

Citizens have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, follow official weather advisories, and take precautionary measures as the winter spell tightens its grip across Pakistan.
