(Web Desk): Pakistan braces for Chenab flood as India opened Salal Dam water while 48 hours are crucial after the government issued high alerts in vulnerable areas.

Punjab authorities have declared a high alert in Sialkot and Wazirabad after India opened all gates of the Salal Dam. The move is expected to sharply increase water flow in the River Chenab, raising concerns about possible flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the Punjab Irrigation Department, the release of water from the Salal Dam is likely to send a strong flow into the Chenab River. District administrations have been instructed to stay fully prepared and take emergency measures if flood conditions develop.

Local authorities have already started precautionary work in flood-prone areas of Sialkot and Wazirabad. Rescue teams, monitoring staff and other relevant departments have been directed to remain ready for any emergency.

Assistant Commissioner Wazirabad Jawad Pirzada said the next 48 hours are extremely critical. He warned that a major flood surge is expected to reach the Chenab River during this period, making constant monitoring essential.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has also warned about the possibility of high flooding. District officials are closely watching river levels and coordinating with emergency response teams to respond quickly if the situation worsens.

Residents living near the banks of the Chenab River have been advised to remain alert and follow official instructions. Authorities have urged people to avoid unnecessary movement near the river and stay informed through official updates.

Officials said all concerned departments are working together to reduce risks and protect lives and property. They assured the public that emergency arrangements have been put in place and the situation is being monitored around the clock.

The next two days will be important as officials closely watch the rising water levels in the Chenab River. Early preparation and public cooperation can help reduce the impact if flooding becomes more severe.
