Rain and floods: NDMA issues nationwide alert

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert regarding monsoon rains and possible flooding in various areas across the country over the next 3 to 4 days.

According to the NDMA alert, heavy rains are expected in Kashmir, Islamabad, Pothohar, northern and central Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from June 29 to July 5, and as a result of the possible rains, there is a risk of flooding in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera and Kohat.

The alert states that heavy rain is likely in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Attock and Chakwal, while heavy rain is also expected in Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Narowal and Lahore.

Similarly, due to rain, there is a possibility of flooding in low-lying areas of Faisalabad and Sargodha divisions.

It has also been reported that there are at least 50 deaths across the country in last three days due to heavy rains.

The NDMA warned that there is a risk of flooding in the rivers of Hazara, Malakand, Azad Kashmir and Pir Panjal and landslides in the mountainous areas, and that the water flow may increase in the Kabul River, Swat River and the connected rivers of Chitral and Hunza.

The alert stated that the risk of flooding has increased due to heavy rains in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta and Badin from July 2 to 5, and citizens have been instructed to stay away from weak structures, mud walls, electricity poles and billboards during rain and strong winds.

The NDMA said that visibility can also be reduced during storms and storms, which can lead to accidents, so be careful.
