Possibility of floods across the country, NDMA issues alert

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The NDMA has predicted more rains in different parts of the country in the next 48 hours which can result urban flooding. NDMA has also issued alerts in this regard.

The National Disaster Management Authority has issued an alert regarding possible flooding, predicting more rain in various cities of the country in the next 24 to 48 hours.

According to the NDMA, there is a risk of flooding in many cities of Punjab due to the rains; heavy rains are also likely in many cities of Sindh, while torrential rains are expected in many areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

NDMA issues official statement on social media website X (Formerly Twitter). According to statement, “Emergency Alert:  According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre, there is a risk of urban flooding in the next 48 hours in the southern districts of Sindh: Sujawal, Thatta, Badin, Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and in the low-lying areas of Pothohar/Northeast Punjab: Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore.”

In Punjab, the flow in rivers and streams of Narowal, Sialkot, and Gujarat has increased, potentially rising to low-level flooding. In another post, NDMA has issued the precautionary measures regarding this situation.

“Avoid low-lying areas, stay away from rivers and streams, refrain from traveling in at-risk areas.”

NDMA officials say that there is a risk of flooding due to melting glaciers in some areas of Gilgit Baltistan, while heavy rains and urban flooding are also likely in areas of Azad Kashmir.
