Shahid Afridi slams KP government over Swat incident

(Web Desk): Former national cricket team captain Shahid Khan Afridi criticised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for its incompetence over the Swat incident.

On the social media website X (formerly Twitter), Shahid Afridi shared a picture of an unfortunate family surrounded by the merciless waves of the Swat River.

In the caption of the post, Shahid Afridi wrote, “The innocent people who drowned in the Swat River remained a picture of helplessness until their final moments, waiting in the hope that someone might save them, but they had no idea that those responsible had other priorities.”

It should be noted that after heavy rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Swat River overflowed today, the flash flood caused devastation, and the merciless waves of the Swat River swept away 18 members of the same family.

The affected family had come from Sialkot to Swat for a visit and was sitting on the bank of the river and having breakfast. However, due to the rain, the river became very strong and 18 members of the same family were swept away.

The Commissioner of Malakand Division told the media that an attempt was also made to prevent the affected family from going to the river.

Later, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government formed a three-member committee to investigate the Swat incident. Grade 21 Khayyam Hassan Khan has been appointed as the chairman of the committee. Grade 19 officer Muhammad Usman and Grade 18 Shehryar Qamar will be part of the committee.

In addition, an assistance of Rs1 million has been announced for the families affected by the Swat incident.

The spokesperson for the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said in a statement that financial assistance of Rs1 million will be provided to the families of the deceased from Punjab.
