NDMA warns of heavy rains in the country within 24 hours

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has forecast heavy rains in the country during the next 24 hours.

According to the NDMA spokesperson, intermittent heavy rain is expected in Rawalpindi and Islamabad for 24 to 48 hours, which is likely to cause possible flooding in the ‘Nala Lai’ and flooding in low-lying areas.

The spokesperson said that residents of the nearby and low-lying areas of Nala Lai should be prepared to evacuate immediately if the siren sounds. Citizens should cooperate with the relevant agencies. The NDMA and relevant agencies are ensuring timely measures.

The NDMA spokesperson said that heavy rain is also likely in Lahore, Chakwal, Attock, Jhelum, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Kasur, Sheikhupura and Hafizabad, while in view of the threat of heavy rains, there is a risk of flooding in cities and overflowing of rivers and canals.

Pakistan Meteorological Department has also issued a pre-alert regarding heavy rains across the upper half of country and chances of flood in the eastern rivers.

It is important to note that the Rawalpindi district administration has also declared a one-day holiday on July 17 due to ongoing adverse weather conditions.
