LAHORE: (Suno News): The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province because of continuous heavy monsoon rains so as to prevent life-threatening accidents.

A notification issued from the Punjab Home Department noted that all types of swimming have been banned across dams, rivers, canals, ponds, and lakes. Furthermore, bathing in rainwater collected on roads, streets, open areas, or public places has also been strictly prohibited.

The government emphasized that unauthorized boating is banned across all water bodies, including distributaries, until August 30. This measure falls under the emergency provisions of Section 144 and is intended to protect human lives.

The notification highlights that these restrictions were imposed in response to worsening weather conditions. The accumulation of rainwater in low-lying and open areas has significantly increased during this monsoon season, raising serious public safety concerns.

Officials warn that bathing in rainwater during heavy downpours poses severe risks, particularly to children and teenagers. Water levels in Punjab’s rivers, dams, and canals have risen dangerously, making swimming or boating in these areas extremely hazardous.

The Punjab Home Department has instructed law enforcement and administrative officials to strictly enforce the ban and ensure public compliance without exception.

This emergency ban reflects the government’s growing concerns over public safety as climate change intensifies monsoon patterns. Rising water levels not only pose immediate drowning risks but also highlight the need for stronger public awareness campaigns. The enforcement of Section 144 shows the government is prioritizing precautionary action, but long-term urban planning and drainage reforms will be crucial to reduce the impact of future monsoons.
