Lahore braces for heavy rain today

(Web Desk): Lahore weather today is expected to experience rain and thunderstorms today, with a high of 38°C and a low of 27°C.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert ahead of the second spell of monsoon rains expected to begin from July 5 to July 10, 2025, across various districts of Punjab.

According to PDMA, widespread heavy rainfall is forecast across the province, with potential for urban flooding, flash floods, and rising river water levels. In response, PDMA Punjab has alerted all relevant departments and district administrations to remain on high alert during this period.

Rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, and Wazirabad. Other affected areas will include Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, and Faisalabad

Districts like Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, and Mianwali are also likely to receive heavy thunderstorms and rain. From July 6 to 8, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Muzaffargarh are expected to witness thunderstorms with heavy downpours. The same pattern is predicted for Khanewal, Lodhran, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, and Layyah.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has warned that river levels will significantly rise starting July 7, increasing the risk of flooding in rivers, hill torrents, and local streams, especially in northern and central Punjab.

Following Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s directives, pre-emptive alerts have been issued to WASA, Rescue 1122, health, irrigation, communication & works, local government, and livestock departments.

 

Citizens are urged to stay indoors during storms, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep children away from flood-prone areas and exposed electrical wires or poles. In case of emergency, contact PDMA Helpline 1129.
