Heavy monsoon rain lashes Punjab cities

LAHORE: (Suno News) Heavy monsoon rain lashed different parts of Punjab, including the federal capital Lahore, in the early hours of Friday.

In Lahore, rain lashed different areas of the city including Johar Town, Township, Wapda Town, Thokar Niaz Beg, Garden Town, and Shahdara.

The highest amount of rainfall 95 millimeters was recorded at Lakshmi Chowk followed by 88 millimeters at Qartaba Chowk, according to the statistics released by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA).

On the instructions of the Punjab chief minister, WASA Managing Director (MD) Ghufran Ahmed monitored the drainage of water in the city.

He visited Mubeen Shaheed and Kalma Chowk underpasses, monsoon camps at Liberty Chowk, and Usman Block Disposal Station.

He said the rainwater accumulated in the city was being drained without any break, directing the officials concerned to speed up the process.

Similarly, the heavy monsoon rain lashed other cities of Punjab including Nankana Sahib, Farooqabad, Narowal, Muridke, Malakwal, Daska, Nowshera Virkan, Mandi Bahauddin, Pasrur, and Gujrat. Power supply was suspended in many areas due to the heavy rain.
