The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has predicted strong chances of sighting the crescent moon for Zilqad 1447 Hijri on April 18.
According to a spokesperson for SUPARCO, the new moon is expected to be born on April 17 at 16:52 Pakistan Standard Time. By sunset on April 18, the moon’s age will exceed 26 hours, making visibility highly likely.
The spokesperson added that in coastal areas, the time difference between sunset and moonset is expected to be around 81 minutes, which further increases the chances of clear sighting.
Experts say such conditions are considered highly favorable for moon visibility, especially when the moon is sufficiently old and remains above the horizon for a longer duration after sunset.
Based on these predictions, the first day of Zilqad is expected to fall on April 19. However, officials emphasized that the final announcement regarding the start of the new Islamic month will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
