US Embassy restricts staff movement in Pakistan as authorities prepare for large religious processions that may cause traffic disruptions and security concerns.
The United States Embassy Islamabad and the United States Consulate General Lahore, United States Consulate General Karachi, and United States Consulate General Peshawar said they are closely monitoring planned large-scale religious processions taking place across Pakistan.
According to the advisory, starting March 10 at 12:00 p.m., the movements of all U.S. personnel will be restricted as a precautionary step during the expected gatherings.
Officials warned that the events could lead to large crowds, heavy traffic congestion and increased security checks. Authorities may also set up additional checkpoints, which could slow down movement in several areas.
The advisory also mentioned that mobile phone and internet services could face disruptions in some regions during the processions. In addition, some roads may be closed or blocked, which could cause traffic delays and diversions near the procession routes.
Officials noted that the situation around large gatherings can change quickly. They warned that even peaceful events sometimes become tense or violent without warning.

Because of this, US Embassy advised citizens to remain cautious and avoid crowded places. The advisory stressed that people should stay aware of their surroundings and monitor local news for updates.
Meanwhile, the U.S. consulates in Lahore and Karachi will continue to suspend all consular services for now. However, the embassy in Islamabad will keep providing services to U.S. citizens.
Authorities also said that people with scheduled consular appointments will be contacted if there are any changes. Citizens have been advised to regularly check their email for further updates.
The advisory also listed several safety precautions for citizens, including avoiding large public gatherings, keeping a low profile, carrying identification documents and cooperating with law enforcement officials when necessary.
The US Embassy’s security alert shows that authorities expect large gatherings and possible disruptions. Restricting staff movement is a precaution to reduce risks. Such warnings are common during major religious events when crowds and security measures increase. It does not necessarily mean a serious threat, but it shows officials want to stay prepared.
