Two WASA workers killed during sewer line cleaning in Punjab

According to Rescue officials, the incident occurred near the Old Lorry Adda area, where the workers were cleaning a main sewer line. Initial reports said the two workers entered the manhole using only a rope and without proper safety equipment. During the operation, the rope reportedly slipped, causing both workers to fall into the sewer.

Both workers died at the scene before rescue teams could rescue them. Rescue personnel later recovered the bodies and shifted them to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital to complete legal formalities. Officials said both deceased workers were residents of Khanewal district. Their identities have not yet been officially confirmed.

The tragic incident has once again highlighted concerns over inadequate safety measures during hazardous sewer cleaning operations. Workplace safety experts have repeatedly stressed the need for proper protective equipment, adequate safety training, and modern cleaning methods to help prevent such accidents.

Similar incidents have claimed the lives of sanitation workers in different parts of Pakistan, raising questions about the enforcement of workplace safety standards. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident to determine whether safety protocols were ignored and whether any negligence was involved.
