Quetta to install AI traffic signals for smarter traffic flow
The Balochistan government has decided to install AI-powered traffic signals in Quetta to tackle growing traffic congestion and improve the city’s traffic management system. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, who reviewed plans to introduce a modern traffic management system in the provincial capital.
Officials briefed the chief minister on the proposed AI-based traffic signals, explaining that the technology would help manage increasing traffic pressure and improve the flow of vehicles across the city.
Chief Minister Bugti directed all relevant departments to work together to ensure the smooth, effective, and long-term implementation of the new traffic management system. He said the use of modern technology would make travel safer, reduce delays, and provide better transport facilities for the people of Quetta.
“The convenience of citizens and a safe traffic system are among the top priorities of the Balochistan government,” the chief minister said.
Bugti added that addressing traffic challenges through advanced technology is an important part of the provincial government’s reform agenda. He said the AI-powered traffic management system is expected to reduce travel time, improve traffic flow, and make daily commuting easier for residents.

The chief minister also said the modern system would promote better road discipline, increase transparency, and strengthen traffic monitoring across the city. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing modern urban infrastructure and providing the public with a safer, more organised, and more convenient transport system.
Earlier, Islamabad authorities also reviewed plans to install AI-powered traffic signals under the Safe City Expansion Project to improve traffic management, reduce congestion, and enhance traffic flow in the federal capital.
Representatives of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Safe City technical team attended the meeting, where they discussed the technical and operational aspects of the proposed project.
