Traffic suspended on Motorway M-5 M-5 Iqbalabad to Gadu – Here’s why
Motorway M-5 traffic closure was announced due to electricity restoration work by MEPCO. The move will temporarily suspend traffic flow on this important route.
According to officials, the shutdown is linked to the repair of high transmission towers and power lines. The work will continue on 15 and 16 June, during which the section will remain fully closed.
Traffic movement at Gadu and Iqbalabad interchanges will also stay suspended from 9am to 5pm. Authorities have advised travelers to use alternative routes during these hours.
Under the diversion plan, traffic from Multan to Sukkur will be redirected from Iqbalabad interchange to National Highway N-5. Similarly, vehicles traveling from Sukkur to Multan will be routed through Gadu interchange.
Heavy traffic will not be allowed to enter the motorway from Rohri Toll Plaza during the restriction hours. Officials said the alternative route adds about 148 km to the journey.

Light vehicles may face around 2 extra hours of travel time, while heavy vehicles could experience delays of up to 3 hours. The increased distance is expected to slow down overall traffic flow.
Motorway police have advised citizens to plan extra travel time before starting their journey. For assistance or updates, travelers can contact the helpline 130 for guidance.
Safety teams have been deployed to manage traffic and ensure smooth diversion operations. Authorities say the plan is necessary to avoid risks during repair work.
The closure is temporary but will affect daily commuters and transporters. Most pressure will be on alternative highways during working hours. Travel time is expected to increase, so planning ahead is important.
