Stock market access gets faster with new SECP rules
The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has introduced a new digital onboarding framework to make investing in the Pakistan stock market easier, faster and more transparent.
Accounts to open within 1 day
Under the new system, a Sahulat Account can now be opened within one day. Applications for an Investor Account will receive a final decision within two days.
The new framework is designed to use technology to improve public access to the country's capital market and encourage more people to become investors.
Digital applications available 24 hours
Investors will be able to submit applications and complete the digital onboarding process at any time, 24 hours a day.
They will also receive a tracking ID that will allow them to check the status of their application online.
If a broker rejects an application, the broker will be required to provide the applicant with the reasons for the rejection in writing.
Verified investors get easier process
Investors who have already been verified will not have to go through the verification process again. This is expected to reduce delays and make account opening more convenient.
SECP targets 2.5 million investors
SECP Chairman Dr Kabir Ahmed Sidhu said technology is being used to make stock market investment much easier.
He said the main goal is to increase the participation of young people and raise the number of investors in the market to 2.5 million.
Sidhu added that Pakistan's capital market offers wide opportunities for growth and investment, making easier digital access an important step toward bringing more people into the market.
